staycation
Hey hey! How was the weekend? Hope it was filled with good food, time with friends/fam, awesome workouts, productivity, and relaxing. Ours was the perfect mix of all of those things.
Just to guarantee that it didn’t feel like a normal week after the holiday festivities on Wednesday, we checked into the Westin La Paloma on Thursday for a little staycation. Summer rates are AMAZING (what? No one wants to visit Tucson in the heat?) so we took advantage and decided to have a little cousins’ trip. My uncle and I got rooms next to each other so the cousins could live their best summer life.
Thursday evening, the clouds rolled in and it started to storm. Thankfully, they cleared up shortly after we checked into the hotel so we could spend the rest of the evening by the pool, margaritas in hand.
Liv went down the slide about 1358 times, and P is really getting the hang of being in the water. She wasn’t a fan after her swim class in Valdosta, but is now enjoying swimming again. (It was a survival-based class, and the teacher was wonderful, but she hated it. I pulled her out of class because she told me she didn’t want to go multiple times, and I didn’t want to traumatize her. I figure we can always try again later and since we don’t have a pool at home, it wasn’t a super necessity right now.) I’m pretty sure that everyone at the pool at La Paloma this weekend also lives here in Tucson.
My mom and Kyle, Meg, and Everly came to hang out with us poolside, which was amazing, too. The girls all swam until it was dark, giggling, and chasing each other, and I could feel that it was building a memory that they’ll look back on. That was worth the hotel cost alone, plus the fact that the girls slept until 8:15 the next day. They LOVE hotel beds and always sleep so well when we’re at a hotel. Standard.
We had breakfast at the cafe, and then spent the rest of the morning out at the pool until lunch and naptime.
Later that evening, I took a spin class at (r)evolve, and Uncle E, nana, and the cousins came over for dinner. I blew up the inflatable pool and the giant unicorn, and Uncle E made pasta, asparagus, and meatballs.
The girls’ meals look a liiiittle different when a real chef makes them.
Saturday, I took an Orangetheory class and got some work stuff done, and then we headed to my dad’s house for swimming and dinner. They made an incredible feast of pasta, chicken, salad, fruit, veggies, and bread, and my nana made her famous coconut cake. It was everything. The girls swam their hearts out and ran around the backyard and playset.
Sunday was zoo day! We decided to hit up the zoo before it got too hot, and explore for a bit. Meg and Everly met up with us, and after the zoo adventures, we took donuts over to madre’s house.
I took Sunday off from the gym because I’m teaching a HIIT class tonight. I haven’t taught in over a month (!) so it’s sure to feel slightly awkward but nice to be back in the swing of it. I always get nervous at a new studio because I’m worried about tech problems, so fingers crossed everything works out. (<— lame pun)
What did you do this weekend? Any fun summer-y adventures?
Have a lovely morning and I’ll see ya soon!
